The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ ($319) is the only air purifier that looks like home decor — and the quietest one we have ever tested. But its high filter costs and lack of smart features mean it is not for everyone. After 60 days of testing, here is the verdict.

What We Love

1. It Actually Looks Good

Every other air purifier looks like a plastic box. The Blueair 211+ has a washable fabric pre-filter available in five colors (Arctic Blue, Lunar Rock, Diva Blue, Buff Yellow, and Dark Shadow). It looks like a Scandinavian speaker. You can put it in your living room without feeling like you have installed medical equipment. For design-conscious buyers, this alone justifies the purchase.

2. Whisper-Quiet Operation

At 31dB on the lowest setting, the Blueair 211+ is the quietest air purifier we have tested. From 6 feet away, you cannot hear it. On medium (45dB), it is a soft hum. Even on max (56dB), it is quieter than most purifiers on their medium settings. If you are a light sleeper or want a purifier in a nursery, this is the one.

3. Simple Single-Button Operation

One button. Press for low, press again for medium, press again for high, press again for off. No menus, no beeping, no confusing icons. For elderly users or anyone who hates smart appliances, the simplicity is refreshing.

4. Electrostatic HEPA Filtration

Blueair's filters use an electrostatic charge to capture particles as small as 0.1 microns — smaller than the 0.3 micron HEPA standard. In our smoke test, the 350 CFM CADR performed well, clearing PM2.5 to baseline in about 25 minutes — slightly behind the Levoit Core 600S (20 minutes) but faster than the Coway Airmega 250 (30 minutes).

What We Do Not Like

  • Expensive filters: $60 every 6 months = $120/year. Over 5 years, the Blueair costs $919 total — more than purifiers that cost twice as much upfront. The Levoit Core 600S costs $549 over 5 years.
  • No auto mode: The purifier runs at whatever speed you set. It does not detect air quality or adjust automatically. If you want set-and-forget, this is not it.
  • No air quality sensor: You will never know if your air is actually cleaner. Levoit and Coway both have real-time air quality indicators.
  • Proprietary filters: You cannot use generic replacements. Blueair's filters are patented and there are no quality third-party alternatives.

Our Verdict: Buy It for Quiet Design, Skip It for Value

The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ is the best choice if you want an air purifier that is quiet, simple, and looks good. It is perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, and design-conscious living spaces. But the $120/year filter cost and lack of auto mode make it a poor value compared to the Levoit Core 600S ($50/year, full smart features, faster cleaning). Buy it for the experience, not the specs.
